Head & Neck Oral Cancer Screening: It’s MORE than what CATCHES the EYE

According to The Oral Cancer Foundation, one person dies every hour of every day of oral and oropharyngeal cancer in the U.S. For years the leading cause was tobacco use in all forms and heavy alcohol use. That has changed with the emergence of the human papilloma virus (HPV-16). Dental professionals are uniquely positioned to screen for abnormalities and save the lives of countless people. Expanded screening techniques and protocol are essential as oral cancer is continually on the rise due to HPV, and 7-10% of oral cancer diagnoses have no known etiology. This interactive discussion will teach and review best practices of the head and neck oral cancer screening, office system, and current research on HPV.

We are uniquely positioned to screen for abnormalities and save the lives of countless patients. But expanded screening protocols are the key as HPV-16 has necessitated the watch for additional symptoms. Join us as we review HPV and discuss screening and office best practices, including a hands-on demonstration of this modern life-saving safeguard against head and neck and oral cancer.
