Take Credit: MOMgienists Acknowledge Your Greatness

momgienists Mar 29, 2017

Why do we deny ourselves the opportunity to acknowledge our own hard work? For some odd reason we tend to downplay the effort we have put forth, to make it seem like it wasn’t that big of a deal? That it didn’t take us as much time as it looks like it did, or should have? I have been doing this to myself lately, and I need to STOP.

Some days I work harder than others, sometimes those really hard days don’t result in as much forward momentum as I would like, but that does not give me a right to sabotage or discount my efforts. Lists help to keep me aware of all that I am doing throughout the day so that I do not neglect to applaud my own hard work. If I have a list to guide me throughout the day not only do I stay on task but I also can look back and see exactly what I have been doing that is resulting in so little, at the moment. Each email I send, every opportunity to network, every idea or thought that I jot down all accumulate and help to push the process uphill.

On the days that the follow through is easy, when the task is on the downward roll and all I have to do is watch it play itself out, these are the hardest days to recognize myself, because today...it feels easy.

I encourage you all to recognize yourself, your hard work, your effort, and enjoy those days that feel easy. I also encourage you to accept the acknowledgment of that hard work from others. Instead of brushing off the effort with a carefree “Oh, it was nothing” statement, instead a firm and self aware “Thank you, it was hard, but so worth it," would be best. About the Author:

Hello, Amy here, fellow mom and hygienist. I have an amazing family that supports me in all my adventures. I’m a wife of 13 years, a mom of 10 years plus 4 years (because let’s face it, each child is different and my parenting for the first doesn’t work for the second, so I add them together for collective parenting experience!), hygienist for 6, dental field for 11. We make our home in South Dakota where we enjoy camping, hunting, 4-wheeling, going to the park, walking the dogs,

soaking up the sun. The rest of the year I grudgingly wear layers to shovel the driveway and stare out the window dreaming of summer! I currently practice clinically part time, am starting a preventive dental hygiene care service in a local long term care facility (read about my adventures here at DentistryIQ), and parent the rest of the time.

I hope to inspire, encourage, entertain, and help grow people through any of my insights. I look forward to letting you peek inside my days.
